THE ALTERNATIVE HEATING SOLUTION: BIOMASS
In the section of BIOENERGY, besides the Bioclimatic & Heated floor with biomass burner Applications, we have etsablished PASIAN HELLAS by Optima, introducing into the Greek market Pellet & Biomass onnivorous burners of Pellets & Solid Biofuels, a Renewable Energy Source that may be produced locally in each country, freeing the local economy from the dependence on Mineral Fuels, with a substantial economic Benefit.
A special characteristic of the entire gamma of PASIAN burners, engineered and manufactured in Italy, is that they may burn many and various types of agricultural by-products, solid biofuels of minimal cost, far beyond the traditional wood pellets.
Get acquainted now of the characteristics and advantages of the most basic solid biofuels.
The Pellet: Conglomerate of dried, heat treated & compressed shredded wood
The Nocciollino: The crushed, cleaned & dried fruit olive kernels
The Corn: Corn Grain
The Shells: The Nut Shells
Listed are only a few of the solid biofuels that may be burnt. In fact, in an effort to constantly improve its production, Pasian & Optima engineering are making continuous research into new bio fuels and many agricultural by-products (such as cynar pellets, agri-pellets, shredded biomass –TRF -,crushed kernels, etc.)
Pellet: Conglomerate of shredded wood
The pellet is made from finely shredded logs of natural dried wood, after the bark is removed. It doesn’t contain any glues or varnishes. The compact nature of the pellet is caused by wood’s natural “lignine”, extracted from the wood during high heat processing … and not glue or other binders. The pellet is ecological, … re-used wood waste or specially cultivated trees may be used, thus reducing the pollutants to the environment, but also economic, … Indeed to the very low usage costs as compared with liquid or gaseous fossil fuels, an indisputable technical advantage compared with actual wood exists as well:
Wood Pellet vs Firewood:
While a good quality hard & hard to find dry wood can reach a calorific value of 4,4 kWh/kg (or 3.780 kcal/ kg) with combustion efficiency of 45-50%, pellets ensure a calorific value of 5,3 kWh/kg (or 4.200 kcal/kg) with a combustion efficiency of 90%, without any need for curing & drying. In reality 1 kg Pellets offers a combustion heating yield equivalent up to 2.5 - 3 kg of wood! And pellets, rather than wood, are much more practical to store, facilitated by their packaging in 15 kg plastic bags, without suffering weight loss during storage, and most of all enable the automation in efficient combustion heating.
Nocciollino - The crushed fruit & olive kernel
The nocciollino is the by-product in fruit processing & olive oil production. After the separation of the edible mass of the fruits and olive oil from the crushed olives, using crushing & centrifuge machinery, and extraction of the remaining olive kernel oil in the case of olives, the solid crushed kernel wood remains, washed, dried and separation of dust can be used as a fuel in boilers, stoves and fireplaces burning solid fuels in granular form. It may be sold in bulk or in convenient packaging in bags of 15 or 20kg.
Low Cost as an agricultural by-product:
The calorific value is relatively lower than that of the pellet, ranges upwards of 4,15 kWh/kg ( or 3.570 kcal/kg), but because the cost of acquisition is negligible, the economy is important, allowing room for savings in operating costs of heating in the order of 80%!
CORN: Corn Grain - Maize
Corn or Maize is one of the most powerful fuels that exist in nature: it can be moved and stored easily and has a minimum calorific value of 5,60 kWh/kg (or 4800 kcal/kg, with humidity ≥ 15%). Its value dry, may reach 6.200 kcal/kg! The grains of maize ensure a clean and neutral combustion, better than burning fossil fuels (like petrol, diesel, fuel oil and coal) and it is absolutely natural, a product of mother earth right out of our fields. Its cost is one of the lowest in terms of fuels, costing only 0,15 - 0,25 €/ kg, and many times much less for a second quality product for the food industry.
High Heat Value:
Corn’s heat value, as has been said, can reach 6.200 kcal/ kg and burnt in special stoves or boilers, with efficiency approaching 90%, does not emit smoke and its combustion residue is approximately equal to that of the pellets. In order to overcome some of the disadvantages of combustion, such as the formation of hard precipitate, it can be used in combination with pellets or crushed biomass- nocciollino -(in a ratio of 40-60%): this way you will have the perfect operation of an onnivorous Pasian biomass stove (or thermoboiler) and maximum savings!
The Cells : The nut Shells
Lately they enter the market, more and more persistently, new environmentally friendly solid biofuels, at nickel & dime costs, as agricultural byproducts, to ensure considerable savings for all consumers. The shells – shells of filberts, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios and suitably treated pine cones broken or grated - are possibly the best existing natural fuel. They have essentially zero humidity, a high content of kilocalories, and, as a by-product of the food industry, they have very low cost! Used in the polycombustible Pasian stoves and boilers, they ensure a tremendous savings with respect to traditional fuels.
Using By –Products for a good purpose!
In conclusion the PASIAN stoves and burners:
• are onnivorous for many Solid Biofuels
• Don't pollute due to efficient combustion of clean combustibles
• They are completely automatic (just remember to fill the fuel tank)
• They are economic with a visible flame creating a warm atmosphere
• They are perfectly safe, because they do not use gas or liquid fuels
• Do not emit dangerous carbon monoxide, odourless, tasteless but lethal!
